Manufacturers recommend replacement every 10 years, even if the detector seems to work. Ionization and photoelectric sensors lose sensitivity over time.
What are the requirements for a duplex or triplex?
Each dwelling must have interconnected detectors powered from the mains with battery backup. When one sounds, they all sound. This interconnection is mandatory in buildings with two or more dwellings.
Do I also need carbon-monoxide detectors?
Yes, in any dwelling with a combustion appliance (gas, oil, wood) or an attached garage. Combined smoke + CO detectors are a good option.
Can you work in a condo building?
Yes. We coordinate the inspection or code upgrade with the board and provide a per-unit report, useful for the building's insurance.
Is there any rebate or assistance for this?
No direct rebate, but insurers often grant a premium discount for buildings whose detectors are compliant and inspected annually.
